Even though Valencia is the third largest city in Spain, its city centre is extremely compact, more so than the city centres of both Madrid and Barcelona.

The old centre is connected by three plazas – Plaza de la Virgen, Plaza de la Reina and Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Many of the city’s premier attractions can be found around these squares such as the city's cathedrals, churches and most notable buildings.

Recently though, the city’s flagship attraction, the Ciudad de las Artes de Las Ciencias, can be found on the outskirts of the city. Officially Europe’s largest urban complex, it incorporates four different attractions – Palau de les Artes (the city’s auditorium), L’Hemisferic (a planetarium and IMAX theatre), Museu de las Ciences (Science Museum) and L’Oceanographic (marine park).

Valencia’s other best-known attraction is the beach. Located twenty minutes outside the city centre via tram, it can get very packed at the weekends. But considering the city boasts over 300 days of sunshine each year, you may find you won’t have to wait until the weekend for the sun to shine.
